Staying indoors to clean may be the last thing you want to do when spring weather has finally arrived. We at Lotus Homes, however, believe that a clean and organized home is a happy home (and the best way to show off your home’s amazing features and upgrades). Read on for three things to add to your spring cleaning list this year!
1. Clear out those winter coats.
Once you’re sure the good weather is here to stay, it’s time to put away those winter coats for a few months and clear up some space in your front closet. The basement is a great option for storage, or take advantage of the spare closet in the mudroom in Lotus Homes’ “The Rose” model to store seasonal items!
2. Sparkling clean windows!
This is an item that’s often overlooked, but it’s a good idea to wipe down your windows, blinds and sills a few times a year. Vinegar is an effective and eco-friendly glass cleaner – mix 1 part white vinegar and 1 part water in a spray bottle. Wipe down blinds with a microfibre duster that captures dirt and dust (avoid feather dusters as they simply spread dust around) or a damp cloth. Fabric blinds can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner attachment.
Windowsills can be easily cleaned with a damp cloth and some soapy water, but window tracks are a little trickier. Grab some paper towels, baking soda, vinegar, and an old toothbrush. Start by sprinkling the tracks with baking soda and spraying them with vinegar. Let the mixture sit for about 5 minutes, and then use the toothbrush to loosen up the grime. Finally, wipe them down with a paper towel and appreciate the results of your hard work.
3. De-clutter.
This is probably the hardest spring cleaning item on this list! De-cluttering can seem daunting when you’re facing a house full of stuff, so it’s easier to tackle one thing at a time. Perhaps this year’s spring cleaning will involve that neglected shelf in the garage, cleaning out the drawers in the kitchen, or sorting through the piles of papers on your office desk.
